| Matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. |
| Atom | A small particle that is the building block of matter . |
| Substance | Matter with a composition that is always the same. |
| Element | A substance that consists of only one type of atom. |
| Compound | A substance containing atoms of two or more different elements chemically bonded together . |
| Mixture | Matter that can vary in composition. |
| Heterogeneous | A mixture in which substances are not evenly mixed. |
| Homogeneous | A mixture in which two or more substances are evenly mixed but not bonded together. |
| Dissolve | To form a solution by mixing evenly. |
| Physical Property | A characteristic of matter that you can observe or measure without changing the identity of the matter. |
| Mass | The amount of matter in an object. |
| Density | The mass per unit volume of a substance. |
| Solubility | The maximum amount of solute that can dissolve in a given amount of solvent at a given temperature and pressure. |
| Physical Change | A change in the size, shape, form, or state of matter that does not change the matter's identity. |
| Chemical Property | The ability or inability of a substance to combine with or change into one or more new substances. |
| Chemical Change | A change of one or more substances into one or more other substances with different physical and chemical properties. |
| Concentration | The amount of a particular solute in a given amount of solution. |
