| Term | Definition |

| Sexual Reproduction | a single specialize cell from a female (egg) merges with a specialized cell from a male (sperm). |
| Asexual Reproduction | all genes come from a single parent. |
| Chromosomes | passed from parents to offspring, made up of DNA |
| Mitosis | a type of cell division where the chromosome are duplicated and create 2 genetically identical cells. |
| Meiosis | a type of cell division where chromosomal crossover occurs and create 4 genetically different cells |
| Egg cell | female reproduction cell |
| Sperm Cell | male reproductive cell |
| Zygote | fertilized egg cell that results from the union of a female gamete (egg, or ovum) with a male gamete (sperm) |
| Trait | an inherited feature or characteristic in an organism |
| Gene | section of DNA on a chromosome that contains instructions for making specific proteins (traits) |
| Daughter Cells | cells formed at the end of mitosis or meiosis |
| Biodiversity | variety of life |
| Gamete | a cell that fuses with another cell during fertilization, a sex cell |
| Mutations | A change in the DNA sequence |
