Element Properties
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Atomic Number | The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom, which determines the chemical properties and its place on the periodic table. A protons are a positive charge in the center of the atom |
Atomic Weight ( Atomic Mass ) | the average mass of atoms of an element |
Electron Affinity | the change in energy of a neutral atom when a electron is added to the atom to form a negative ion. |
Electronegativity | A property of an atom which is increases with its tendency to attract the electrons of a bond |
Atomic Radius | A measure of the size of atoms usually the distance from the center of the nucleus to the boundary of the surrounding sloud of electrons |
Metallic Character | the level of reactivity of a metal. a set of chemical properties associated with the elements that are metals. |
Types Of Chemical Bonds Formed | |
Valence Electrons | an electron that is associated with an atom, and that can participate, in the formation of a chemical bond |
Ionization Energy | an atom or molecule that describes the minimum amount of energy required to remove an electron from the atom or molecule in the gaseous state |
Melting Point | the temperature at which a solid will melt |
