Poetry Paint pictures with words. Written in lines and stanza
Meter Patterns of stressed and unstressed syllables in poetry. The rhythm or repeating patterns
Rhythm The patterns or beats in the line of a poem
Free verse Poems that do not rhyme and do not have a regular rhythem
Personification Giving human characteristics or traits to non living things
Alliteration Repetition of the same or very similar constant sound is words that are close together in a poem
Hyporble Extreme exaggeration
Onomatopoeia The use of words that imitate the sound it describes
Simile Use like or as to compare
Metaphor Comparison that uses like or as
Rhyme Words that have the same sound
Allusion Referring to something else
End Rhyme Words at the end of the sentence rhyme
