Poetry Paint pictures with words. Written in lines of stanzas
Meter Pattern of stressed or unstressed syllables in poetry. The rhythm or repeating patters.
Rhythm The pattern or beats in the lines of a poem.
Free Verse Poems that do not rhyme and do not have a regular rhythm.
Personification giving human characteristics or traits to a non living thing.
Alliteration Repetition of the same or very similar consonant sounds
Hyperbole Extreme exageration
Onomatopoeia words that imitate the sound it describes
Metaphor comparison w/o like or as
Rhyme Words that have the same sound
Allusion Referring to something else
End Rhyme words that rhyme at the end of a sentence
