| Term | Definition |

| Photosynthesis | the process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to make food. |
| Cell respiration | the process by which cells use oxygen to pruduce energy from food. |
| Reactants | are the substances that are present before the chemical change takes place. |
| Products | are the substances that are formed during the chemical change. They are the things that are present at the end. |
| Glucose (C6H12O6) | sugar |
| Carbon dioxide (CO2) | is a colorless, odorless gas vital to plant life on earth. |
| Oxygen (O2) | a colorless, odorless reactive gas. |
| Water (H2O) | a colorless, transparent, odorless, tasteless liquid that forms the seas, lakes, rivers, and rain and is the basis of the fluids of living organisms. |
| Atoms | the smallest particle of a substance that can exist by itself. |
| Energy pyramid | A diagram that shows the transition of energy from one trophic level to another. |
| Trophic level- | is the position that an organism occupies in a food chain - what it eats, and what eats it. |
