Vocabulary

Nouns,verbs,and prepositions

TermDefinition
Adverbs a word modifying a verb, an adjective, or another adverb, can answer how, when, and where
Prepositions shows a relationship between a noun or a pronoun and its object
Prepositional Phrases starts with a preposition, ends with its objects and includes all words in between
Personal pronouns refers to people and things ( I, Me, He, She)
Possessive pronouns shows possession or ownership (mine, yours, its, our, theirs)
Conjunctions joins words, phrases, and clauses
Coordinating conjunctions links two nouns, links 2 independent clauses or links 2 phrases (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet)
Subordinating conjunctions joins a clause that cannot stand along with the rest of the sentence (after, or, once, now, that, until)
Nouns person, place, thing or idea
Common noun a person, place, thing, or idea that is not specific that begins with a lower case letter
Proper noun a name of a person, place, thing, or idea that begins with a capital letter
Verbs expresses an action or state of being
