| Alliteration | Repetition of beginning sounds of words. |
| Imagery | Descriptive words that create a picture in the reader’s mind. |
| Repetition | When a word or phrase is used more than once for emphasis |
| Rhyme Scheme | The pattern of rhyme in a poem. |
| Rhythm | The beat of a poem. |
| Hyperbole | An exaggeration for effect |
| Extended Metaphor | A metaphor that carries the comparison through several lines or throughout an entire poem |
| Simile | A comparison between two unlike things using like or as |
| Metaphor | A comparison between two unlike things NOT using like or as; stating that something IS something else |
