Atom the basic unit of a chemical element.
Molecule a group of atoms bonded together, representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that can take part in a chemical reaction.
Matter physical substance in general, as distinct from mind and spirit; (in physics) that which occupies space and possesses rest mass, especially as distinct from energy
Compound a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture
Element a part or aspect of something abstract, especially one that is essential or characteristic.
Pure Substance A substance made of one type of matter (can be element or compound) and has constant composition. A pure substance cannot be physically separated but has to be chemically sperated
Mixture Substance made up of multiple types of matter and has a variable composition. A mixture can be physically separated.
Homogeneous A mixture where the particles are not evenly distributed
Heterogeneous A mixture where the particles are evenly distributed
Solution A mixture in which particles of one or more substances (the solute) are distributed throughout another substance
Colloid the mixture must be one that does not settle or would take a very long time to settle appreciably
Suspension A mixture in which small particles of a substance are dispersed throughout a gas or liquid
Tyndall Effect The Tyndall Effect is the effect of light scattering in many directions in colloidal dispersion
