Molecule Atoms put together
Matter Something that occupies space, and has mass.
Atom Combination of protons, neutrons, and electrons. They're everywhere we look and they're the extremely small.
Element 1 or more atoms of the same kind. (bonded together)
Compound 2 or more different atoms bonded together.
Pure Substance a substance made up of one type of matter. (constant composition) Chemical reaction
Mixture a substance made up of multiple types of matter. (variable composition) Physical
Homogeneous a mixture where particles are evenly distributed
Heterogeneous A mixture where particles are not evenly distributed.
Solution a mixture containing atoms, ions, or molecules fully dissolves
Colloid a mixture containing mid-sized particles that do not settle out. (milk)
Tyndall effect dispersed colloids particles scatter light, allowing us to differentiate between colloids and solutions.
Suspention A mixture containing particles that settle out if left undistributed. (salad dressing)
