| connotation | the attitudes or feelings associated with a word |
| ethos | appeal to credibility or character |
| pathos | appeal to emotion |
| logos | appeal to logic or reason |
| rhetorical appeals | methods of persuading someone in an argument as defined by Aristotle using ethos, pathos, and logos |
| reasoning | how your evidence supports your claim |
| author's purpose | reason for writing |
| audience | the person or people who will be reading the writing, or watching the presentation |
