Mater,Atoms
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Matter | Anything that has matter and takes up space (Volume) |
| Atoms | Make up matter and Molecules. Have protons, neutrons, and a nucleus |
| Molecules | Molecules are different atoms put together |
| Elements | Elements are anything on the periodic table Ex:Oxygen,Copper,Zinc,Hydrogen,Nitrogen, etc.. |
| Compounds | Compounds are two or more elements put together Ex: two hydrogen and one oxygen make H2O |
| Pure Substance | Made up of one type of matter (can be an element or a compound) Has a constant composition. Elements or Compounds Bound Together, can not be seperated using physical means ( Must be chemical ) |
| Mixture | A substance made up of multiple types of matter. Has variable compositions. Elements and Compounds NOT Bound Together. Can be seperated by physical meas ( Sorting,Filtering, Heating & Cooling) |
| Heterogeneous | A mixture where the particles are NOT evenly distributed |
| Homogeneous | A mixture where the particles are evenly distributed |
| Solution | Have tiny particles that disperes light |
| Colloid | A mixture containing mid-sized particles that do not settle out (milk) |
| Suspension | A mixture containing particles that settle out if left undisturbed ( Italian dressing, Medicine) |
| Tyndall Effect | Dispersed colloid particles scatter light allowing us to differentiate colloids and solutions |
