QuestionAnswer
credits To give reference to the creator and source of the information used in a presentation.
linear Moving in a straight line or path; a multimedia presentation that moves in a straight line from image to image.
non-linear Not moving in a straight line or path; a multimedia presentation that transitions from one image to another in an order that is preset, but not necessarily in a straight path.
AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) A set of rules and guidelines by the network administrator that are set up to regulate Internet use and to protect the user.
advertisement a notice or announcement in a public medium promoting a product, service, or event or publicizing a job vacancy
bandwidth The amount of information that one can send through a connection, measures in bits-per-second (Bps). A standard page of English text contains about 16,000 bits.
browser The software application that allows you to view Internet pages.
boolean operators define the relationships between words or groups of words. [i.e. ( ), NEAR, NOT, AND, OR]
cyberbully The electronic posting of mean-spirited messages about a person (as a student) often done anonymously.
domain name The unique address name for an Internet site.
DNS (Domain Name System) This is a service that stores, translates, and retrieves the numerical address equivalents of familiar host names that you use everyday.
ethernet A common method of networking computers in a Local Area Network (LAN).
firewall Technology that prevents users from visiting inappropriate web sites, and protects the network from unauthorized users.
freeware Software written and then donated to the public, so anyone is free to copy it and share it with their friends. This is not the same as shareware or commercial software, which is supposed to be paid for.
