Forces
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Centripetal Force | A force that causes an object to move in a circle |
Rolling Friction | Friction that occurs when an object rolls over a surface |
Newton | The SI unit used for magnitude, strength, of a force |
Force | A push or pull exerted on an object |
Static Friction | Friction that acts on an object that isn't moving |
Compression | An elastic force that squeezes or pushes molecules in matter together |
Balanced Forces | Equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions |
Mass | A measure of how much matter is in an object |
Free Fall | The motion of a falling object when the only force acting on it is gravity |
Projectile | An object that is thrown |
Net Force | The overall force on an object when all individual forces acting on it are added together |
Law of conservation of momentum | The rule in that the absence of outside forces the total momentum of objects that interact doesn't change |
Tension | An elastic force that stretches or pulls on the molecules in matter |
Sliding Friction | Friction that occurs when one solid surface slides over one another |
Unbalanced Force | Force that changes an objects velocity |
Air Resistance | The fluid friction experienced by objects falling through air |
Gravity | The force that pulls objects together |
Inertia | The tendency of on object to resist any change in it's motion |
Satellite | Any object that orbits around another object in space |
Momentum | The product of an object's mass & velocity |
Friction | The force that one surface exerts on another when the two surfaces rub against each other |
Fluid Friction | Friction that occurs as an object moves through a fluid |
Weight | A measure of the force of gravity on an object |
