Question | Answer |
---|---|
atom | The smallest particle of an element that still has the characteristics of the element. |
chemical property | A characteristic of matter that can only be observed when matter is changed into a new kind of matter. Examples include heating, baking/cooking, rusting, exploding, and sometimes changing color. |
density | How much matter is in a certain volume. |
mass | The amount of matter in an object. |
matter | Anything that has mass and takes up space. Things you can see, feel, smell, and/or taste. |
metric system | Measurement system based on the number ten. |
molecule | A particle of matter made from at least two joined atoms. |
physical property | A characteristic of matter that can be observed without changing the matter into something new. Size, shape, color, odor, texture (feel). |
states of matter | Forms of matter, like solid, liquid, and gas. |
volume | The amount of space matter takes up. |
weight | A measure of the pull of gravity on an object. |
