Conflicts tensions arising from incompatible needs, where the actions of one can fustrate the ability of the other to achieve a goal
Intrapersonal Conflict conflicts within ourselves
Interpersonal Conflict conflicts between 2 or more poeple
Causes of Conflicts Missunderstanding, poor communication, differences of values or goals, personality clashes, stress
Stages of Conflict Latent, Perceived, Felt, Overt, and Resolution
4 Basic Styles of Conflict Management Avoider, Accomodator, Compettitor, and Collaborator
Assertiveness being able to stand up for your rights without infringing on the rights of others ("I" statements)
Aggressiveness domineering and suppressing the other ("you" statements)
Stress a state of mental or emotional strain brought on by a stressor
Stressor any demand, stiuation, circumstance, or stimulus that threatens the person
4 Lenghts of Stress brief, episodic, chronic, accute
Physical Stressors againg, illness, injury, pain, mental disorders
Psychological Stressors loss of job, death of close one, marriage/divorce, becoming a parent, conflict and change
Spiritual Stressors loss of role, loss of meaning, questioning of values
Eustress mild level of stress that acts as a positive stress response (eg.deadlines)
Primary Appraisal of Stress determine the extent of the stress (eg. not stressfull, slightly stressful ect...), this is subjective
Secondary Appraisal evulate coping skills (eg. health, energy, social support ect...)
Anxiety impending feeling of doom, difficult to see other possibilities
Coping any response to external life stressors that serve to prevent, avoid or control emotional distress
Burnout physical, emotional and spirtual exhaustion
