### vocabulary for physics like newtons 2nd law of motion

TermDefinition
Newton's second law of motion States that the acceleration of an object is in the same direction as the net force on the object.
Friction the forces that oppose the sliding motion of 2 surfaces that are touching each other.
Static friction the frictional force that prevents two surfaces from sliding past each other.
Sliding friction the force that opposes the motion of 2 surfaces sliding past each other.
Air resistance opposes the motion of objects that moves through the air.
Gravity an attractive force between any 2 objects that depends on the masses of the object and the distance between them.
Weight Gravitational force exerted on an object.
Centripetal acceleration Acceleration of an object toward the center of a curved or a circular path.
Centripetal force a net force that is directed toward the center of a curved or circular path.
Newton's 3rd law of motion when an object exerts a force on a second object, the second one exerts a force on the first that is equal in strength and opposite in direction.
Momentum an object is the product of its mass and velocity.
