STAAR Reading Vocabulary - List #1 - This stack is the words and definitions.

TermDefinition
AFFIX letters added to the beginning or ending of a word that changes its meaning
ALLITERATION words with the same starting sound
HYPERBOLE a large exaggeration (a statement that represents something as better than it really is)
IDIOM a common saying that means something different than it says
METAPHOR a comparison between two things WITHOUT using like or as
ONOMATOPOEIA a word that mimics (imitates) the sound of the object or action it refers to
PERSONIFICATION giving human qualities to an object or animal
PREFIX a group of letters added before a word or base that changes its meaning
SIMILE a comparison between two things using like or as
SUFFIX a group of letters added after a word or base that changes its meaning
