Chemical Bonding
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Chemical Bonding | The combining of atoms to form molecules or ionic compounds. |
| Chemical Bond | An interaction that holds atoms or ions together. |
| Valence Electron | An atoms outermost electron or electrons. Determines the chemical properties. |
| Ions | A charged particle that forms when an atom or group of atoms gains or loses one or more electrons (becomes positive or negative). |
| Ionic bond | A bond formed when electrons are moved from one atom to another resulting in one atom becoming positive and the other becoming negative. |
| Crystal lattice | The Regular pattern in which a crystal is arranged. |
| Covalent bond | A bond in which electrons are shared between atoms. |
| Molecule | The smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties. |
| Metallic bond | A bond formed by the attraction between positively charged metal ions and the electrons around them. |
