| synthesis reaction | a chemical reaction in which 2 or more substance react to form a single substance |
| decomposition reaction | a chemical reaction in which a compound breaks down into 2 or more simpler substances |
| single-replacement reaction | a chemical reaction in which one element take the place of another element in a compound |
| double-replacement action | a chemical reaction in which 2 compounds exchange positive ions and form 2 new compounds |
| combustion reaction | a chemical reaction in which a substance reacts rapidly with oxygen, often producing light and heat |
| oxidation-reduction reaction | a chemical reaction in which electrons are transferred from one reactant to another |
