Science

TermDefinition
Pendulum Body suspended form a fixed point so it can swing back and forth under the influence of gravity.
Cycle The building block of harmonic motion
Frequency Number of cycles an oscillator makes per second
Amplitude Describes how big the cycle is
Period The time for one cycle
Oscillator A system that shows harmonic motion. Ex: Pendulum, mass on a string, a vibrating string.
Damping Gradual loss of amplitude of an oscillator
Linear Motion A motion that goes from one place to another
Harmonic Motion Motion that repeats over and over
Hertz The unit of one cycle per second
Phase Where the oscillator is in the cycle.
