Smiley Face Tricks

TermDefinition
Magic 3 Use three phrases in a series to create support for a point.
No Gets or Gots Use better verbs in order to make your writing as clear as it can be!
Alliteration The repetition of a the same consonant sound at the beginning of three or more words that are close together.
Figurative Language These are all comparisons between unlike things.
Imagery When describing, you show (don’t tell) by using at least three of the five senses. This helps create a picture in the reader’s mind.
Repetition To make a point, writers repeat specially chosen words or phrases.
Expanded Moment Instead of speeding past a moment in their stories, writers emphasize it by “exploding” the action.
Humor Add this to raise someone’s spirits and turn a boring paper or piece of writing into something funny.
Hyphenated Adjective Add this unique modifier that describes something by connecting many words with dashes.
Full Circle Ending The repeating of a phrase from the beginning of the piece in order to add a special ending that wraps up the piece.
