What is the shelf life of frozen red cells? ten years from phlebotomy when frozen and 24 hours when thawed.
How are frozen red cells stored? when frozen, store at -65 degrees celsius and 1-6 degrees celsius when thawed.
What QC is required for frozen red cells? average recovery of >80% RBCs and at least 75% of RBCs must survive in pt 24 hours post transfusion.
What QC is required for Leukocyte reduced packed cells? <500,000 white cells and 85% recovery of red cells
How long are washed red cells good? only 24 hours after washing.
What QC is required for washed red cells? removal of plasma
How are washed red cells stored? 1-6 degrees Celsius.
How long is the shelf life for platelets? 5 days
How are platelets stored? Room temperature (20-24 degrees celsius) with gentle agitation.
What QC is required for platelets? 5,500,000,000 platelets and a pH of 6.2 at most.
What is the shelf life of Fresh Frozen plasma (FFP)? 1 year when frozen and 24 hours once thawed.
What QC is required for Fresh Frozen plasma (FFP)? MUST be frozen within 8 hours of collection.
How is Fresh Frozen plasma (FFP) stored? 18 degrees celsius when frozen and 1-6 degrees celsius thawed.
What is the shelf life of cryoprecipitated antihemophilic factor? 1 year if frozen, 4 hours if thawed.
What QC is required for cryoprecipitated antihemophilic factor? at least 80 IU/bag of factor VIII and 150 mg of fibrinogen.
How is cryoprecipitated antihemophilic factor stored? frozen at -18 celsius at highest, thawed at 30-37 celsius, and stored after thaw at 20-24 celsius (room temp)
what is the shelf life of granulocyte concentrate? 24 hours
What QC is required for Granulocyte Concentrate? 1,000,000,000 granulocytes
How is granulocyte concentrate stored? At room temperature (20-24 celcius)
What is the shelf life of irradiated packed red cells? 28 days from irradiation or the original expiration date (whichever comes first)
what is the shelf life of irradiated granulocytes and platelets? the same as the original expiration date.
What is the shelf life of factor VIII? This will be stated on the vial
How should Factor VIII be stored? at 1-6 celsius
What is the shelf life of factor IX? See vial
How should Factor IX be stored? at 1-6 celsius
What is the shelf life of normal serum albumin? 5 years
How should normal serum albumin be stored? at 1-6 celsius
What are Red cells packed with for shipping? wet ice (1-10 celcius required for transport)
What are frozen units packed with for shipping? dry ice to maintain their frozen state
What are platelets packed with for shipping? normally transported with Pack red cells and must be placed on an agitator within 24 hours.
What is the gauge of needle used for Blood donation? 16 is normally used although 18 can be used as well.
What will indefinitely defer a donor? HIV/AID, Mad cow, living in Europe for a cumulative 5 years or just UK for a cumulative 3 months, organ transplant depending on MD orders, receiving payment for sex, males that have had sex with another male, cancer, bleeding disorder, tegison medication
