TermDefinition
matter anything that has mass and takes up space.
physical A change in the appearance, but not WHAT IT IS.
chemical a change in matter that produces one or more NEW substances.
weight the gravity on an object.
mass matter in an object.
qualitative made by gathering information that can be recorded using descriptive language.
quantitative made by gathering information that can be recorded as a number with a measurement unit.
inference not a fact, but an interpretation of what the direct observations mean.
scientific law describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a set of conditions.
constant a part of an experiment that is held in the same condition for control and experimental
variable part of the experiment that changes.
manipulated variable a factor in a controlled experiment that is intentionally changed by the experimenter.
theory a well tested explanation for a wide range of observations or experimental results
inquiry to ask information
dependent variable a resulting factor in a controlled experiment that is observed and measured to see if it changes due to the manipulation of another variable.
experiment a course of action completed in order to test a hypothesis
control a standard to which other levels are compared
