Compare and contrast the different forms of energy and their characteristics.

mechanical energy | the amount of work an object can do because of the objects kinetic and potential energies. |
thermal energy | the kinetic energy of a substances atoms. |
heat | the energy transferred between objects that are different tempertures. |
chemical energy | the energy that is stored in chemical bonds. |
electrical energy | the energy that results from the flow of moving charges. |
electromagnetic energy | energy resulting from the motion of the charged particles within atoms. |
sound energy | energy given off by a vibrating object. |
nuclear energy | the energy stored in the nucleus of an atom as a result of strong nuclear forces. |
nuclear fission | the splitting of the nucleus of a large atom to 2 or more fragments; releases additional neutrons and energy. |
nuclear fusion | the combo of the nuclei of small atoms to form a larger nucleus; releases energy. |
