Energy The ability to do work
Work When a force causes an object to move in the direction of the force
Electrical energy The energy of moving electrons
Sound energy Energy caused by an object's vibrations
Chemical energy Energy stored in the bonds between atoms.
Potential energy Energy STORED in the position or shape of an object
Kinetic energy The energy of motion. Depends on the mass and speed of an object
Gravitational potential energy (GPE) Energy associated with the height of an object. (Weight x height)
Thermal energy The TOTAL kinetic energy of the particles of a sunbtance
Temperature The AVERAGE kinetic energy of the particles of a substance
Light/Radiant energy (a.k.a. electromagnetic radiation) Energy that can travel through the vacuum of space (no medium required!)
Nuclear energy Energy associated with changes to the nucleus of an atom
Mechanical energy The combined energy of motion and position (KE + PE = ME)
