Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| States of matter | the physical forms in which a substance can exist |
| solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
| gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape |
| melting point | a substance changes from a solid to a liquid |
| vaporization | process in which a liquid changes to a gas |
| boiling point | the temperature at which a liquid boils |
| condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
| freezing point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
| sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
| phase change diagram | drawing that show the relationships among temperature and changes of state |
| plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are highly enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
