| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| state of matter | physical forms of matter, which include solid, liquid, gas, plasma, and BEC |
| solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| liquid | a state of matter that has a definite volume, but not a definite shpe |
| gas | a form of matter that doesn't have a definite volume or shape |
| melting point | the point in degrees at which a solid become a liquid |
| evaporation | the change of a substance from a liquid to a gas |
| boiling point | the point in degrees at which a liquid becomes a gas |
| condensation | the change in state from a gas to a liquid |
| freezing point | the point in degrees at which a liquid becomes a solid |
| sublimation | the process in which a solid turns directly to a gas |
| phase-change diagram | a diagram that shows an object changing from a state of matter to another |
| plasma | a state of matter similar to a gas, except it gives off heat, naturally has color, and is less dense |
