Describe the difference between pure substances and substances
| Term | Definition |

| Pure Substance | a sample of matter ,either a single element or a single compound, that has definite chemical and physical properties |
| Compound | a machine made up of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds. |
| Molecules | the smallest unit of a substances that keeps all of the properties |
| Chemical Formula | a combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance |
| Subscript | a small number written to the right and slightly below a chemical symbol to tell the number of atoms of that element in the substance |
| Mixture | a substance made by combining two or more different materials in such a way that no chemical reaction occurs. |
