Energy

QuestionAnswer
Conduction process by which energy is transferred from a warmer object to a cooler object by physical contact
Convection process by which energy is transferred in gases and liquids, occurring when a warmer, less dense area of gas or liquid is pushed up by a cooler, more dense area of the gas or liquid
Heat energy that is transferred from a warmer object to a cooler object
Kinetic energy energy of motion
Law of Conservation of Energy energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed from one form to another or transferred from one place to another
Potential energy stored energy that an object has due to its position or chemical composition
Radiation process by which energy is transferred through empty space in waves
Energy The ability to do work or cause a change
Transformation a change of energy from one form to another
Transfer a change in energy from one location to another
Fluid a substance that can flow easily, such as a gas or a liquid
Friction a force that resists the motion between two surfaces that are in contact with one another
Mass the amount of matter in an object
Mechanical energy energy that moves objects
Sound energy energy resulting from vibrations of particles in matter; cannot travel through empty space
Effort the amount of force used to move an object over a distance
Distance the extent or amount of space between two things, points, lines, etc.
Electromagnetic energy energy transmitted through space in the form of electromagnetic waves
Work the use of force to move an object over a distance
Chemical energy energy stored in the chemical make-up (composition)of matter
Thermal energy the total amount of energy from the movement of particles in matter (heat energy)
Nuclear energy energy produced through joining of the nuclei of two atoms (fusion) or breaking apart of a nucleus (fission)
Energy efficiency measurement of usable energy after an energy conversion

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.

To see how well you know the information, try the Quiz or Test activity.
