TermDefinition
Heredity Is the passing of physical characteristics from parents to offspring.
Trait Each different form of characteristic, such as stem height, and seed color.
Genetics The scientific study of Heredity.
Probability To predict the results of a particular event.
Meiosis The stage of the cell cycle during which the cells nucleus divides into 2 new nuclei and one copy of the DNA is distributed into each daughter cell.
Messenger RNA the form of RNA in which genetic information transcribed from DNA as a sequence of bases is transferred to a ribosome.
Transfer RNA RNA consisting of folded molecules that transport amino acids from the cytoplasm of a cell to a ribosome.
Mutation A change in a gene or chromosome.
Fertilization The joining of the sperm and the egg.
purebread The offspring of many generations that have the same traits.
gene The set of information that controls a trait; a segment of DNA on a chromosome that codes for a specific trait.
alleles The different forms of a gene.
dominant alleles An alleles whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present.
recessive alleles An allele that is masked when a dominate allele is present.
