Scatterplots

TermDefinition
Scatteplot A graph of plotted points that shows the relationship between two sets of data.
Positive Correlation As X increases, Y increases (positive slope)
Negative Correlation As X increases, y decreases (negative slope)
No correlation X and Y are not related
Trend Line/Line of Best Fit Aline that best describes the trend of the data in a scatter plot. Used when the data points do not all lie on a line, but are close to a line.
Characteristics of Scatterplots 1. Direction: positive or negative 2. Strength: strong,weak 3. Form: linear, exponential, quadratic
