describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
Term | Definition |
---|---|
state of matter | the physical forms of matter, which include solid, liquid, and gases |
solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substances are fixed |
liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
gas | a form of matter that does not have definite volume or shape |
melting point | temperature at which a solid changes into a liquid |
vaporization | process in which liquid changes into a gas |
boling point | temperature at which a liquid vaporizes and changes into a gas |
condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
freezing point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
phase-change diagram | drawing that shows the relationships among temperature and changes of the state |
plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperature are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
