Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| state of matter | physical forms of matter, which includes solid, liquid, and gas |
| solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
| gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape |
| melting point | temperature at which a solid changes to a liquid |
| vaporization | process in which a liquid changes to a liquid |
| boiling point | temperature at which a liquid vaporizes and changes to a gas |
| freezing point | temperature at which a liquid changes into a solid |
| phase-change diagram | a drawing that shows the relationship among temperature and changes of states |
| plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperature are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
| condensation | the change of state from a gas to a liquid |
