describe the difference between pure substances (elements & Compounds) & mixture
| Term | Definition |

| Pure Substance | a sample of matter, either a single element or compound, that has a definite chemical & physical properties |
| Compound | a substance made up of atoms of 2+ different elements joined by chemical bonds |
| Molecule | the smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical & chemical properties of the substance |
| Chemical Formula | a combination of chemical symbols & #s to represent a substance |
| Subscript | a small # written to the right & slightly below a chemical symbol to tell the # of atoms of that element in the substance |
| Mixture | a combination of 2+ substances that aren't chemically combined |
