describe the difference between pure substances and mixtures

| pure substance | a sample of matter that has definite chemical and physical properties |
| compound | a substance made up of 2 or more elements joined by chemical bonds and atoms |
| molecule | the smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substance |
| chemical formula | a way of expressing the proportions of atoms |
| subscript | a number or figure that is smaller than the average or normal type of thing. |
| mixture | two chemicals or elements mixed together by chemical bonds |
