distinguish between atoms and molecules

TermDefinition
atom the smallest unit of an element that maintains the properties of that element.
element a substance that can't be separated or broken down by chemical means
neutron a subatomic particle that has no charge and is found in the nucleus of a atom
electron a subatomic number that has a negative charge
atomic number the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom; the atomic number is the same for all atoms in the element.
neutral in the middle not positive or negative
atomic mass the mass of an atom expressed in atomic mass units
chemical symbol a one or two letter code that represents an article.
