| elements | a substance made out of one specific atom |
| compound | a thing that is composed of two or more separate elements |
| mixture | A material made up of at least two different pure substances. |
| heterogeneous | different substances that remain physically separate. |
| homogeneous | any mixture that is uniform in composition throughout. |
| solution | a single substance |
| solute | it is dissolved |
| solvent | is the substance in which the solute is dissolved |
| colliods | mixtures, with the other two being a solution and suspension. |
| suspention | solid particles that are sufficiently large for sedimentation |
| pure substances | A material that is composed of only one type of particle |
| condensation | water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it. |
| distillation | the process of seperating a liquid from a liquid |
| centrifuge | a machine that separate fluids of different densities |
| magnetic seperation | the process of separating metals |
| chromatography | the process of separating particles |
