Elements COmpounds Mixtures

QuestionAnswer
What are mixtures? Mixtures are two elements or compounds physically intergrated together
What are compounds? Compounds are two or more elements chemically intergrated together
What are elements? Elements are 1 element that cannot by broken by chemical or physical ways
What are the different types of mixtures? Colloids and Suspension
How do they differ? Colloids allow light through. Suspension do not allow light through.
What are the properties of elements? consists of only one kind of atom, cannot be broken down into a simpler type of matter by either physical or chemical means, and can exist as either atoms (e.g. argon) or molecules (e.g., nitrogen).
What are the properties of mixtures? consists of two or more different elements and/or compounds physically intermingled, can be separated into its components by physical means, andoften retains many of the properties of its components.
What are the properties of compounds? consists of atoms of two or more different elements bound together, can be broken down into a simpler type of matter (elements) by chemical means (but not by physical means), has properties that are different from its component elements, andalways conta
Why do colloids allow light through? Their particles are big enough to allow light to let light shine in.
How are they all different from each other? Elements are pure substances. Compounds are chemically combined elements. Mixtures are physically combined elements.
What are solutions? are groups of molecules that are mixed and evenly distributed in a system.
What is the name for homogenous mixture? any mixture that is uniform in composition throughout
What is the name for heterogenous mixture? simply any mixture that is not uniform in composition
Why are they important? Because they are formations of compounds and mixtures
What are examples of these? Fruit Loops, bowl of different peanuts- Heterogeneous Water blood plasma-Homogeneous

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
