Which type of mixture does substances dissolve in other substances? Solution
What are the two classes of mixtures? Homogenous and Heterogeneous
What are elements? Pure substances
What are compounds? Combinations of substances made by chemical changes
What are combinations of substances made by physical changes? Mixtures
What are the five ways to separate mixtures? Evaporation, distillation, centrifuge, magnetism,filtration
What does suspension? Particles may spread throughout the mixture, but will settle
What is a colloid? Particles will not settle
What are the three properties of mixtures? They may be solid, liquid, or gas
What does diluted mean? More solvent, more water
The ability to dissolve is called what? Solubility
How do you get a solution? solvent + solute
What is distillation? Boiling to separate liquids
What is centrifuge? Separates substances based on density. The more dense substance will be pulled to the side of a spinning container because of gravity.
