| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| state of matter | the physical forms of matter which includes solid, liquid, and gas. |
| solid | the state of matter in which the volume and shape of a substance are fixed |
| liquid | the state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape. |
| gas | a form of matter that does not have a definite volume or shape. |
| melting point | a substance changes from a solid to a liquid. |
| vaporization | process in which a liquid changes into a gas. |
| boling point | the temperature at which a liquid boils. |
| condensation | changes of a state from gas to a liquid |
| freezing point | the temperature in which a liquid changes into a solid. |
| sublimation | the process in which a solid changes into directly into gas. |
| phase change diagram | drawing that shows the relationships among temperature and changes state |
| plasma | a state of matter that forms when temperatures are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
