Describe the differences between pure substances and mixtures.

| Pure substance | a sample of matter either a single element or a single compound that has a definite chemical or physical properties. |
| compound | a substance made of an atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds. |
| molecule | smallest units of a substances that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substances |
| chemical formula | a combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substances. |
| subscript | a number written below and to the right of a chemical symbol in the formula. |
| mixture | a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined. |
