Describe the difference between pure substances (elements and compounds) and mix
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Pure substance | a sample of matter, either a single element or a single compound that has a definite chemical and physical properties. |
| Compound | substance made of atoms of 2 or more different elements joined by chemical bonds. |
| Molecule | Smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical and chemical properties of that substance. |
| Chemical Formula | A combination of chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance. |
| Subscript | small number written by a chemical symbol to tell the numbers of atoms of that element. |
| Mixture | combination of substances that are not chemically combined. |
