Describe the movement of particles in solids, liquids, gases, and plasma states
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| State of Matter | the physical forms of matter, which include:solid, liquid, and gas |
| Solid | state of matter in which volume & shape of substance are fixed |
| Liquid | state of matter that has a definite volume but not a definite shape |
| Gas | a form of matter that has a definite volume and a definite shape |
| Melting Point | the temp at which a substance changes from a solid to a liquid |
| Vaporization | process in which a liquid changes to a gas |
| Boiling Point | temp at which a liquid boils |
| Condensation | change of state from gas to liquid |
| Freezing Point | temp at which a liquid changes to a solid |
| Sublimation | the process in which a solid changes directly into a gas |
| Phase-change Diagram | drawing that shows the relationships among temp and changes of state |
| plasma | a state of matter that forms when temps are high enough to completely remove electrons from the atoms to which they were bound |
