Describe difference between pure substances (elements and compounds)and mixtures
| Term | Definition |

| Pure Substances | a sample of matter, either a simple element or a single compound, that has definite chemical & physical properties |
| Compound | a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds |
| Molecule | the smallest unit of a substance that keeps all of the physical & chemical properties of that sybstance |
| Chemical Formula | a combination of chemical symbols & numbers to represent a substance |
| Subscript | a small number written to the right and slightly below a chemical symbol to tell the number of atoms |
| Mixture | a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined |
