Grade of chemicals in compounding

TermDefinition
Technical/ Commercial Grade Commercial or Industrial quality, generally of indeterminate quality, 9 on 1-9 (1= most pure)
CP - Chemically Pure More refined than technical grade, but still of unknown quality; only partial analytical information available, 8 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
USP/NF Meets standards set by the USP/NF 7 on 1-9 (1 = most pure)
FCC Meets specifications of Food Chemical Codex 6 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
ACS reagent High purity; meets )specifications of the Reagent chemicals committee of the American Chemical Society 5 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
AR (analytical reagent) Very high purity 4 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
HPLC Very high purity; used in high pressure chromatography 3 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
Spectroscopic grade very high purity 2 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
Primary standard Highest purity; used in standard solutions for analytical purposes 1 on 1-9 (1=most pure)
