Grade of chemicals in compounding
| Term | Definition |

| Technical/ Commercial Grade | Commercial or Industrial quality, generally of indeterminate quality, 9 on 1-9 (1= most pure) |
| CP - Chemically Pure | More refined than technical grade, but still of unknown quality; only partial analytical information available, 8 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| USP/NF | Meets standards set by the USP/NF 7 on 1-9 (1 = most pure) |
| FCC | Meets specifications of Food Chemical Codex 6 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| ACS reagent | High purity; meets )specifications of the Reagent chemicals committee of the American Chemical Society 5 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| AR (analytical reagent) | Very high purity 4 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| HPLC | Very high purity; used in high pressure chromatography 3 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| Spectroscopic grade | very high purity 2 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
| Primary standard | Highest purity; used in standard solutions for analytical purposes 1 on 1-9 (1=most pure) |
