Pure Substance matter that always has the same composition
Element A substance that cannot be further broken down
Compound A substance made of two or more simpler substances
Heterogeneous Mixture Noticeably different parts of a substsance
Homogeneous Mixture Two substances so evenly distributed that it's difficult to distinguish between the two
Suspension A heterogeneous mixture that separates into layres over time
Colloid Contains some particles that are intermediate in size between the small particles in a solution and the larger particles in a suspention
Physical Property Any physical characteristic of a material that can be observed without changing the composition of the substance
Viscosity The tenancy of a liquid to keep from flowing
Conductivity The ability of a material to allow heat to flow
Malleability The ability of a solid to be hammered without shattering
Melting Point The point at which a substance changes form a solid to a liquid
Boiling Point The point at which a liquid boils or becomes a gas
Filtration A process that separates substances based on the size of their particle
Distillation A process that separates substances based on their boiling point
Physical Change Occurs when a physical property of a substance changes but the substance it's self stays the same
Chemical Property The ability to produce a change in the composition of a substance
Flammability A material's ability to burn in the presence of oxygen

Precipitate Any solid that forms and seperates from a liquid
