Scientific Method

| Science | a way of learning about the natural world by gathering information. |
| Observing | using one or more senses to gather information |
| Qualitative Observation | descriptions that don't involve numbers or measurments |
| Quantitative Observation | are measurments |
| Inferring | based on reasoning from what your already know |
| Predicting | making a forecast of what will happen in the future based on past experiences or evidence |
| Chemistry | the study of properties of matter and how matter changes |
| Physics | is the study of matter and energy and how they interact |
| scientific inquiry | the ongoing process of discovery in science |
| variable | having a range of possible value |
| independent manipulated variable | variable is intentionally changed to observe its effect on the dependent variable |
| dependent responding variable | event studied and expected to change when the independent variable is changed |
| Controlled experiment | a variable that doesn't change |
| Scientific law | phenomenon of nature that has been proven to invariably occur when certain conditions are met |
| Scientific theory | human imagination that encompasses empirical laws |
