Academic Terms for Humanities

| Analogy | A point by point comparison made between two things to show how they are alike |
| Emotional appeals | Details that appeal to your feelings in an argument |
| Bias | A leaning favor of or against a person or issue |
| Cause and effect | Cause is the event that makes something happen. Effect is what happens in result of the cause |
| Chronological Order | Events that are in order |
| Compare and contrast | Compare-to look at similarities contrast- to look at difference |
| Conclusion | a general summing up of the specific details in a text |
| connotation and denotation | connotation-the feelings and associations that have come to be attached to a word denotation- strict dictionary definitiom |
| context clues | looking for clues of a word's meaning by using the context |
| adequate | sufficient or enough |
| verified | approved |
| valid/invalid opinion | valid- personal belief that is supported by facts invalid- vice versa |
| fallacious reasoning | false reasoning |
