| Science | Way of learning about the natural world by gathering information. |
| Observing | Using one or more senses to gather information. |
| Qualitative Observations | That don't involve numbers or measurements. |
| Quantitative observations | Measurements. |
| Inferring | When you explain your observation or making an inference. |
| Predicting | Making a forecast of what would happen in the future based on past experience or evidence. |
| Chemistry | Study of the properties of matter and how matter changes. |
| Physics | The study of matter and energy and how they interact. |
| Scientific inquiry | Refers to the different ways scientists study the study the natural world. |
| Variable | Factors that can change in an experiment. |
| Independent (manipulated) Variable | The variable that is changed. |
| Dependent (responding) Variable | The variable that is expecting to change because of the manipulated variable. |
| Controlled Experiment | Investigation in which all variables except one remain the same. |
| Scientific law | A statement that describes what scientists expect to happen every time under a particular set of conditions. |
| Scientific Theory | Well-tested explanation for a wide range of observation or experimental results. |
